East Asia Summit explores free trade area prospects
Singapore: The East Asia Summit (EAS), a "leaders-driven forum" with India, as also China and Japan in its fold, "is studying the feasibility of a free trade area among its 16 countries." This was indicated by an official spokesman for the Summit after the Foreign Ministers of the member-countries met in Singapore on Tuesday under the auspices of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN). Beijing in 'bunker mode' for Olympics

North unlikely to meet top envoy
Singapore: Though the foreign ministers of the two Koreas are in Singapore this week for the Asean Regional Forum, there's little chance they will meet face-to-face. Pyongyang turned down Seoul's request to take advantage of the forum to have high-level discussions on purely bilateral issues. However, the foreign ministers from the member nations of the six-party talks aimed at denuclearizing North Korea meet informally today for the first time since the talks opened in 2003... ....
