Next 30 days for first draft

Kathmandu Post, 9 March 2010

The Constituent Assembly (CA) is revising its schedule for the tenth time on Tuesday allocating 30 days for preparation of the statute’s first draft. The amendment to the CA calendar will allot next 50 days for tasks including seeking feedback on the draft. Tuesday’s CA meet will endorse the amendment to be finalised by Business Advisory Committee. “We are discussing allocating 30 days for preparation of the first draft and giving the next 50 days for procedures related to statute promulgation,” said CPN-UML Chief Whip Bhim Acharya. The draft will then be taken for public feedback. Based on feedback, Constitutional Committee will prepare the bill related to the statute.  CA members will then register amendments to the bill and clause-wise discussion will begin. The CA will have to pass every clause by two-third majority.
