Pak-Afghan trade transit deal extended to Tajikistan

The News, 22 July 2012

ISLAMABAD: In a landmark development, Pakistan and Afghanistan on Saturday agreed to extend the Afghanistan-Pakistan Trade Transit Agreement (APTTA) to Tajikistan in what will be the first step for the establishment of a North- South trade corridor. The countries concerned were involved in hectic efforts for years to set up the corridor. This move would subsequently be extended to other neighbouring
Central Asian states including Uzbekistan, Kyrghizstan and Turkmenistan after the initiation of the first link. Central Asian states, including Kazakhstan as well as the states with sophisticated rail and motorway links with the Russian federation, would also be considered in the arrangement.
