The seminar was organized by the Southeast Asia Research Programme (SEARP) at the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies (IPCS) to assess Southeast Asia as a region in the next decade with a special reference to India's options and challenges. The seminar engaged a distinguished and scholarly panel of former ambassadors and academicians to discuss the crucial issues and developments in Southeast Asia in the past decade and explore new horizons in future. The speakers focused on the economic trends, external dimensions, possible challenges and impediments that envelope India-Southeast Asia relation on a broader level. The speakers were of the opinion that political and economic situations in Southeast Asia are conducive for deepening ties with regional players. It was concluded in the discussion that India’s aspirations to be a global force cannot manifest unless India goes full throttle in pursuing both bilateral and multilateral relations with at least the well developed ASEAN nations.
