The Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies organized an interactive session with H.E. Prasad Kariyawasam, the Sri Lankan High Commissioner to India. The High Commissioner briefed the gathering on the historical ties between India and Sri Lanka. He reinforced the fact that Sri Lanka does not consider India as a threat and that the country supports India’s aspiration to be a global power. In fact, progress and development of Sri Lanka is closely linked with the rise of India. The session broadly discussed issues relating to ethnicity in Sri Lanka, the relationship between India and Sri Lanka in the aftermath of government actions against the LTTE, the economic ties between both the countries and the future of the South Asian region. In the discussion, the High Commissioner indicated Sri Lankan government’s desire to engage with Tamil population in India who are closely associated with the Tamil population of Sri Lanka in order to clear all misunderstandings about the Sri Lankan government.
