Armed Conflicts in South Asia: Annual Survey

Venue: IPCS Conference Room

The Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies (IPCS) organized the review and discussion of the draft papers to be included in the annual series on Armed Conflicts in South Asia for the year 2010. The book edited by Mr. P R Chari and Dr. Suba Chandran would be published by Routledge with support from the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS).  The Armed Conflicts in South Asia 2010 examines major conflicts in South Asia- India (with special reference to the Northeast, Jammu and Kashmir and Naxalism), Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. The authors analyzed the pattern of conflict under four main titles: a brief history, principal actors, major trends in 2009 and conflict management. In the inaugural session, Prof. Chari presented an overview on the developments in the area of security in South Asia. The select groups of experts on the subject assessed the draft papers, each of which focuses on the major trends and developments in armed conflicts in the region in 2009 and their potential impact and influence on the future trajectory of conflicts. The authors will be submitting the final draft of their respective papers after incorporating the inputs and feedback provided by the discussants.
